Tutors - MRCPCH Part 1 Course Course Directors: Dr Marc Tebruegge, DTM&H (Hons), DLSHTM, MRCPCH, MSc, MD Marc studied Medicine at the University of Frankfurt, University College London Medical School, the University of Cape Town (Republic of South Africa) and the University of New South Wales (Sydney, Australia). He has previously worked at King's College Hospital (PICU, Hepatology and NICU), St. Mary's Hospital London (Infectious Diseases) and Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children (Infectious Diseases, Immunology and Bone Marrow Transplant). He obtained a Diploma in Tropical Medicine and Hygiene from the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine in 1999 and more recently an MSc in Molecular Biology of Infectious Diseases at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. He was also awarded an MD degree for his research into diagnostic challenges related to hepatitis B virus infections. He is currently on the editorial board for three peer-reviewed journals - BMC Globalization and Health, the Journal of Pediatric Infectious Diseases and the Internet Journal of Pediatrics and Neonatology - and has been an Editor for ISABEL (a clinical decision support tool for Paediatricians) for several years. He has been teaching on Vaccinations / Immunology on the Diploma of Child Health (DCH) revision course at the Institute of Child Health (ICH) for the last 4 years, teaches on the Northwick Park Hospital / Imperial College MRCPCH Part II course and has been a tutor for the European Society of Paediatric Infectious Diseases (ESPID). Marc is currently working at the Department of Paediatric Infectious Diseases at St. Mary's Hospital London. He is lecturing on Infectious Diseases and Immunology.
Dr Minju Kuruvilla, MBBS, MRCPCH Minju is currently on the Cambridge / Eastern Deanery SpR programme. He has previously worked at Great Ormond Street Hospital (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and Paediatric Surgery) and at Hammersmith Hospital (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit). Minju has also participated in a Tsunami Disaster Relief Project in Sri Lanka and has spent several weeks working in the refugee camps and the local Neonatal Unit in Batticaloa, Eastern Sri Lanka. Minju is currently working as Specialist Registrar in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge and with the Acute Neonatal Transport Service (ANTS). He is lecturing on Neonatology on the course. Senior Advisor: Dr Veerasingam Nerminathan, MBBS, FRCPCH Veerasingam is the Clinical Director of Paediatrics at Southend University Hospital and Honorary Senior Lecturer at Queen Mary's School of Medicine and the Imperial College London. He has a special interest in Endocrinology and Diabetes and has been running growth, endocrine and general paediatric clinics for more than two decades. He has a keen interest in teaching and has previously been an examiner for the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health for several years. He has also been actively involved in the question setting process for the exams for many years. In 2004 he was voted best clinical tutor by University College London & Royal Free Medical School students. On the course Veerasingam is teaching on Growth & Development and Endocrinology. Dr Archana Desurkar, MBBS, DNB, MRCP (Paed), MD - Paediatric Neurology Archana graduated from B.J. Medical College, University of Poona (India) in 1987. She came to the U.K. in 1999 and has worked in a variety of Paediatric Departments at teaching hospitals, including the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital and the Royal Hospital for Children in Edinburgh. She then joined the National Grid training in Paediatric Neurology and worked at St. George's Hospital London. Currently, she works as Specialist Registrar in the Department of Paediatric Neurology, Evelina Children's Hospital London. Her interests include Paediatric epilepsy and motor disorders.
Dr Adam Fox, MA(Hons), MSc, MB, BS, DCH, MRCPCH - Paediatric Allergy Adam read Medicine and Neuroscience at Cambridge University. He then embarked on a career in Paediatrics and recently completed his specialist training in Paediatric Allergy & Immunology. He is currently a clinical research fellow at Imperial College where he is investigating the role of environmental allergen exposure in peanut allergy. He is also an Honorary Consultant in Paediatric Allergy at the Royal Free Hospital, London. Adam is also the Editor of the Internet Journal of Pediatrics and Neonatology. Dr Ettore Guaia - Child & Adolescent PsychiatryEttore graduated in Italy in 1981 and completed his specialist training in Child Neuropsychiatry at the University of Palermo in 1985. In 1989 he became a Consultant in an outpatient unit for children with learning disabilities and neurodevelopental disorders in Palermo and has been actively involved in teaching at the University of Palermo Medical School. He first came to the UK for his clinical attachment at The Royal Hospital for sick children in Edinburgh in 1991 and later worked at St. George's Hospital in London. Ettore is currently the lead clinician of the South Essex Partnership NHS Trust and works as a Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrists. He is also holding the post of visiting Research Associate at Institute of Psychiatry at "The Maudsley", King's College London. His special interests include behavioural phenotypes, early onset psychosis and neurodevelopmental disorders.
Dr Ann Hickey MB BcH BAO MRCPI MRCPCH - Neonatology Ann is a Consultant Neonatologist at University Hospital Lewisham She graduated from University College Cork. Ann commenced her paediatric career in Cork and went on to train at the National Children’s Hospital, National Maternity Hospital and The Temple Street Children’s Hospitals in Dublin. Ann completed her specialist training in Neonatology at Kings College Hospital and Guys and St Thomas’ Hospital before taking up her current post in 2004. She is currently actively involved in teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels at Lewisham. Ann has taught on several courses including Guys Part 2 MRCPCH course and continues to teach on South Thames SpR teaching programme. She is a regular OSCE examiner and has previously examined on Part 2 exams. Dr Juan Pablo Kaski BSc (Hons), MBBS (Hons), MRCPCH – CardiologyJuan Pablo is currently working as a Clinical Research Fellow in Cardiology at Great Ormond Street Hospital. He has previously worked at the Royal Brompton Hospital (SpR in Paediatric Cardiology; SHO in PICU, Cardiology and Respiratory Paediatrics) and the Whittington Hospital (General Paediatrics and Neonatology). His previous teaching experience includes lecturing on the Diploma of Child Health course at the Institute of Child Health, London.
Dr Riaz Kayanis, MBBS, BSc, MRCPCH - Paediatric A&E / Emergency Medicine Riaz graduated from Guy's and St Thomas' Hospital Medical School and completed jobs in A+E medicine at Lewisham University, and Chelsea and Westminster Hospitals, as well as further training at Kings College. After becoming an SPR in North Thames he is pursing a career in PICU and is currently working at St Mary's Hospital Intensive Care Unit. He is also an undergraduate tutor at Imperial College Medical school.

Dr Lee Noimark, BSc, MBBS (Hons), MRCPCH - Metabolic Medicine Lee studied Medicine at the University College Hospital & Middlesex Medical School and graduated with honours in 2000. During his studies he also obtained a First Class BSc degree in Cellular Pathology and Immunology. He later began his career in Paediatrics at Barnet General Hospital before moving on to work at Hammersmith Hospital (NICU). He then worked at University College London Hospital and Great Ormond Street Hospital with Prof Clayton and Prof Leonard (Metabolic Paediatrics). Lee is currently continuing his SpR training with the North London Deanery.
Dr Ashley Reece, MBChB, MSc, MRCPCH, ILTM - Genetics Ashley is a General Paediatrician with an interest in Medical Education and Teaching. He qualified from the University of Leeds, and worked initially in Paediatrics at St James's University Hospital in Leeds. After 3 years in North London (Core and Neonatology), he entered a two year Clinical Lecturer post at University College London contributing to design and delivery of the undergraduate paediatric course, undertaking role in a Molecular Genetic research project and working in General Paediatrics at University College Hospital. He has completed an MSc in Clinical Paediatrics (University of London), is a Member of the Institute for Learning and Teaching in Higher Education and has taught on Teaching the Teachers training courses. He served on the RCPCH Trainees' Committee, the North London Deanery Speciality Training Committee and the RCPCH Membership Board as a trainee representative. Ashley has been appointed as a Consultant Paediatrician with a special responsibility for Ambulatory Care at Watford General Hospital.

Dr Wolf-Peter Schmidt, MSc, MD - Medical Statistics
Wolf graduated from
Medical School in 2000. He then worked in General Medicine until 2001,
and then started research in neuroepidemiology and cardiovascular
epidemiology at the Institute of Epidemiology and Social Medicine at the
University of Muenster/Germany. He obtained a Master of Science in
Control of Infectious Diseases at the London School of Hygiene and
Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) in 2004. Since 2004 he has been working for
the Environmental Health Group (Disease Control & Vector Biology Unit)
at LSHTM. Wolf is interested in epidemiological methods and study
design, especially related to infectious diseases. Currently he is
supporting research on water, sanitation and hygiene for the
Environmental Health Group. He also works on mathematical modelling of
